Friday, May 3rd

Twists, Side Bends & Inversions 6:00pm-8:00pm

We start the weekend with one of the most unique and original workshops. When we improve this kind of flexibility and strengthen our spine, all our practice takes a leap forward, including Handstands. Anatomically, we’ll pay special attention to the spine, neck, shoulder internal rotation and adductors. We’ll find new stability points and increase the role of the upper body with fun arm balances and upside down time.

Saturday, May 4th

For Handstand Lovers 12:00pm-2:00pm

One of the most popular workshops, it includes a thorough warm up for shoulders, elbows and wrists, as well as deep abdominal work, gluts & leg activation. For alignment drills, with and without weight, we will alternate between wall and floor to not overload upper body but still reprogram nervous system. We will also work on resistance training, several kinds of jumps and entries into Handstands, eliminate bad habits and Q&A at the end. Not to be missed! Though for all levels, this workshop is ideal for those that can already jump into Handstands against a wall.

Hip Openers: from Pigeon to Eka Pada Sirsasana 2:30pm-4:30pm

This workshop will cover both external and internal hip rotation (ER/IR) while protecting knees, ankles and sacroiliac joints. Leg strengthening poses, squats, arm balances and a few inversions are a few of the postures we’ll play with. We’ll progressively reach deeper hip openers like “leg behind the head” (Eka Pada Sirsasana), cover other alternatives, best practices, specific mobility drills and tips to enjoy this family of poses that’s often neglected. Energetically, you’ll leave more connected to the amazing power of your hips.

Meditation with Moises: “The New Earth” 5:00pm-7:00pm

Meditations for a new mindset. How to let new energies and experiences come into your life.

Sunday, May 5th

Backbends: Making Kapotasana Accessible for Everyone 12:00pm-2:00pm

This workshop will break down one of the most intimidating backbends in smaller, more manageable pieces. If backbends are not your jam, this class is for you! Special attention will be paid to increasing shoulder flexion, while stabilizing this joint. We’ll also cover in depth a correct spinal segmentation, focusing on curving & isolating t-spine, as well as understanding the important role of the deeper abs (TVA), obliques and pelvic floor. Expect a careful warm up, lots of isolated drills to incorporate into your routine, plenty of options to play with, and a few fun inversions. Lots of info packed into this one!

Breathwork Study and Practicum 2:30pm-4:30pm

This workshop will cover from the more classical pranayamas, to newer techniques of hyper/hipo ventilation (Wim Hof, Buteyko etc). We’ll talk about the nervous system and how the vagus nerve is the conductor of this orchestra. We’ll start with some anatomy and theory of the respiratory system, then dive into different breathing techniques, so that we can experiment them firsthand and feel how they transform us on different layers. This workshop is for all levels but not recommendable for pregnant women.

Meditation with Moises: “The New YOU” 5:00pm-7:00pm

Meditations for a new mindset. How to let new energies and experiences come into your life.

For out of town guests, there are many places to stay in Elgin—hotels and Airbnbs are available nearby. If you decide to stay in Austin, we highly recommend getting a rental car as ride shares to and from Austin can be challenging to find.

If you are coming from outside of Elgin, please check out our FAQ page for visiting guests.

Where is the studio?

Our studio is located at 28 N. Main Street, Elgin, TX 78621. PLEASE NOTE that this is a different location than Carmen and Moises’s workshops in 2022 and 2023.

Do I have to be a teacher or advanced yogi to participate?

Absolutely not! Carmen teaches her classes to suit all levels, whether you are new to yoga or can touch your feet to your head upside down.

What should I bring?

Bring socks and/or a towel you can slide around with. If you have a block and strap, bring them. If you don’t, no problem, we have loaners at the studio (but these classes are much, much bigger than normal, so BYO is appreciated!). For those taking the breath work and meditation sessions, a pen and journal/notebook are encouraged. Other than that, bring your mat and an open mind! (We do have loaner mats for those traveling without one.)

Where should I park? What eating options are around? What time can I arrive?

If you’re joining us for the first time from out of town (that includes Austin!), please check out our Visitor FAQs.

Can I sign up now and pay later?

Due to the popularity and demand for these workshops, we are not able to accept unpaid sign ups. You must be paid in order to reserve your spot.

I have a membership at Body + Shine, are these classes included?

No, these classes are not included in your membership.

The workshop I want to attend is already sold out!!! HELP!!!

Yikes! We have a limited wait list available that you can add yourself to in case someone cancels or is looking to sell their tickets. Please email us and we will contact you if anything becomes available.

If I buy a day pass, can I switch one of the sessions from that day to a different day?

No, the pricing options are sold as is. If you need a more customized schedule, we recommend booking the sessions you can attend as single sessions.

What if I need to cancel?

We will be very sad if you can’t make it! Cancellations on/before February 29th will receive a full refund, minus 3% merchant services fee. Cancellations in March will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations on/after April 1st are considered a no show and will not be refunded.

ABOUT CYOGA, CARMEN, AND MOISES

What is cYoga

cYoga is the dynamic yoga style created by Carmen Aguilar. While the classes are rooted in the essence and the form of yoga, the delivery is adjusted to our world. cYoga helps students get better by accomplishing poses they could not do before, relieving pains and aches in their bodies, improving their breathing and concentration. cYoga also aims at keeping students engaged throughout the class so they can make a habit out of practicing yoga.

The Basic Elements

  • cYoga classes are always different. No two classes are the same. Sequences are adapted to the theme and capabilities of the students.

  • cYoga classes are always challenging. Regardless of the level, challenging cYoga classes keep the students engaged and focused thoughout the class.

  • cYoga classes are always energizing. cYoga classes always aim to accomplish a peak pose difficult for the students so they leave with a sense of accomplishment.

  • cYoga classes are always transformational. cYoga classes challenge your believes of what is possible, what you can do and what you cannot.

ABOUT CARMEN

Carmen Aguilar had completed an Engineering degree and then a Masters degree, spoke 4 languages and was deciding in what direction to launch her career when she found yoga. A seemingly crazy choice at the time, she dropped everything and devoted all her energies to the study of this discipline. The deeper she got into it the more it fascinated her. During the first years she studied with every teacher she could find, completed 5 different Teacher Trainings while she started to develop her own style and her daily practice. Devoting to it 3 hours a day, 7 days a week, she has been able to reach levels few practitioners share. She has been teaching yoga for more than 20 years, and during that time she’s developed a unique teaching style, cYoga, intended to make her students achieve their best both physically and mentally. In her own words: “cYoga came from a craving for an intense practice: I wanted to try things my body couldn’t follow but pretty soon I realized how much sequencing and warming up affected the outcome. An intense asana practice is not only cleansing and rejuvenating, but it can also change the way we’re wired. Our body is the most tangible vehicle to access our very own essence and stepping on our mat is an amazing and precious experience!” In 2018, she sold her yoga studio in Chicago, The Lab, and moved to Hawaii, where she lives with her husband Moises. Pre-pandemic, Carmen traveled across the world teaching yoga, and now she primarily teaches weekly classes live streaming online in addition to her large on-demand video library.

ABOUT MOISES

Moises started to practice yoga in 2003 when his consulting job demanded him to travel weekly from city to city and found that lifestyle highly demanding for his body. With the help of his wife Carmen, he started to develop his own practice in hotel rooms at five in the morning and his meditation practice late at night. Since then he has studied and explored the teachings of ashtanga, vinyasa flow, forrest and universal yoga. As a firm believer of Carmen’s yoga style, he co-founded The Lab with her in 2010 to share the benefits he found by following Carmen’s unique vision. Expect creativity from his class sequences and adjustments, be challenged physically and mentally and come out recharged. Moises has written numerous books on philosophy and meditation, in addition to having his own podcast and online library of recorded meditations.
